How to use keyword research
Start with a keyword you already know matters to your business, not the biggest one you can think of. The related keywords are the useful part: they show what else people search for around that idea, and the volume and CPC beside each one tell you which of them anyone is actually competing for.
Search volume is the average number of Google searches per month. CPC is what advertisers pay per click, which is the clearest signal of commercial value: a keyword with a high CPC is one somebody is making money from. Paid competition runs from 0 to 1 and describes the Google Ads auction, not how hard the keyword is to rank for organically.
Search intent is the provider’s classification of what the searcher wants. Informational keywords usually need an article, commercial and transactional ones usually need a page that sells something. Matching the page type to the intent matters more than the word count.

- Where does the data come from?
- Search volume, CPC and competition come from Google Ads data through our search data provider. Related keywords come from Google's own related searches. Nothing on this page is generated or estimated by us.
- Why is a keyword showing no CPC?
- The provider returns no cost per click for some keywords, usually because there is little or no advertising on them. A blank cell means the value was not returned, which is different from it being zero.
- How current is the search volume?
- Google Ads volume is a monthly average and updates monthly, so it moves slowly. The date it was last updated is shown with the seed keyword.
- Is this the same data as the paid product?
- Yes. The free tool limits how many results you see and how many searches you can run per day, not where the numbers come from.
