What search volume means
Search volume is the average number of times a keyword is searched on Google each month, taken from Google Ads data. It is an average across twelve months rather than a live count, so a seasonal keyword can look flat until you look at the monthly history underneath it.
The history matters as much as the headline number. A keyword averaging 5,000 searches a month is a different proposition if it is growing steadily than if it spiked once and has been falling since. The trend line shows twelve months so you can tell those apart.
Volume alone does not tell you whether a keyword is worth targeting. A keyword with modest volume and a high CPC is often worth more than a large one with no commercial intent behind it.

- It comes from Google Ads, which reports rounded monthly averages rather than exact counts. Treat it as a reliable sense of scale rather than a precise number, and compare keywords against each other rather than reading any single figure as exact.
- Why does the volume differ from another tool?
- Most tools start from the same Google Ads data but apply their own smoothing, clickstream blending or rounding. We show what the provider returns without adjusting it.
- What if there is no data for my keyword?
- Very new or very rare keywords often have no volume on record. We show that as no data rather than as zero, because the two mean different things.
